Hey everyone! I picked up my 1984 928S on Tuesday and have already bought all new taillights, sidemarkers, turn signals, parking lights and hood/hatch struts, lol. They are on the way as we speak.

Anyway, here are some pictures. Im from the Jersey Shore, btw. I'd love to join up as an official OC Member, but I don't know how to go about doing that through the forum. Is the only way to go to 928oc.org?

Welcome JV - I have an 83 and many parts are similar except the engine.

Glad to have you - I think you will have a great experience owning a 928, and this group of folks is here to help you with the friends and advice part!

I am approaching my 1 year anniversary of 928 ownership.....it's getting to where I can really enjoy it more and more by taking it to 928 get togethers and local PCA events.....lots of fun.

BTW - the wheels look original even though they are black. Do you know how they were painted and do they look good close up? I understand if they are the Anodized kind, that they need to have that removed/sanded before painting. Just curious. The all Black knight rider look can be cool. Maybe a touch of Red here and there... ;)

Enjoy!

Thanks for the warm welcome, Strat! The PO said he had them dipped, and they doo look nice, but it's just not for me. Funny thing, my brother also mentioned that it had a Knight Rider feel to it, lol.

So my box of goodies came in today! She now has all new hood and hatch struts, which is awesome. However, I didn't know what was entailed in replacing all the lights. I wasn't quite prepared for removing the front and rear bumper covers, lol. I'll probably do that this weekend.

I was also going to replace the beading.. but she is going to be getting a full paint job in the near future and my plan is to remove as much as I can (bumper covers, mirrors, fenders, etc..) and have the shop paint all those pieces and the car separately. I figure replacing all the weather stripping and beading should be done after that. Thoughts?

Welcome and enjoy the time you work on your car. It's almost as much fun as driving it. The more I learn about the car the more I respect it. Nothing like making a mod and taking it out for a tour.

Mark, I think you are talking about tail lights on an S4/GTS, JohnnyV has an S and the four screws on the tail light lens come out to change the tail lights, but I think he is ACTUALLY talking about the side markers...maybe... Wait, that can't be right as you CERTAINLY wouldn't have to pull the bumper covers for them either.

Yea, Johnny, I am not sure which lights you are trying to replace, but you don't have to remove the bumper covers to get to ANY lights on ANY 928...

Well I bought replacement lights, housings and all, not just the bulbs for the tail lights, rear side markers, front side markers, turn signals, and parking lights. The PO tinted everything black and I decided to replace everything, not just the lenses.

I'll have some time to tinker with the car tomorrow so I'll report back.

I did some more cleaning and took apart a huge portion of the interior. I'm very happy with how everything is underneath...you can really see how well these cars are built :)

+2 on that. I was amazed how the little things were engineered so that it was easier to work on.

Could be James. It's time to get another 928. Looks like the vendor I told you about still has that car. I'll call again this weekend. He won't even take a small deposit from me until I've seen it... I'll be mid-Atlantic exactly a week from now. Can't wait...

Johnny, your car looks awesome and menacing as is. The blacked out S4 wheels and no side mouldings really clinch the deal... Hope it goes as good as it looks...

I echo that. I have done work on my american built vehicles and after just a few years there is surface rust on all the cheap hardware, this is nearly unheard of on the 928 hardware.

I agree Johnny. I have made a few changes but I am not going to change the outside looks.

I changed the steering wheel to a 930 look.
A 7 inch flip out stereo and
a stand alone engine management system (see ECM passenger kick panel)

Under the hood the engine is painted up and missing the distributors
and the only other planed visible change is the window switches to these.
