Tire Options

I need to replace my tires soon. I have 7.5"x17" and 9"x17" turbo twists on the '90 GT now. I am looking for a good price/performance tire, strictly for street non-snow driving (only good weather winter driving if at all).

Second consideration there would be Sumitomo HTR Z III www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMak...928%20S4&autoModClar =

The ventus are a tiny bit softer but personally i have dont like Hankook
First time I have heard of Sumitomo

I went with Yokohama's because I have used them before, they balance out with little or no weights


These are reeeally sticky (soft) and 300kph/186mph

Dunlop's Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec 168mph (W) but sticky

I really like these ADVAN A048, stickier then fly paper, wont last long, and only 168mph again

Even thought you haven't heard of Sumitomos?
Some good reviews by 928ers on the Hankooks.
I don't envision every seeing anything near the 150mph speeds. :eek:

I have tried the Hankooks as a truck tire. They always took 3-4 oz of weights to balance them out and I had two that the side wall gave out on.
My neighbor just had 4 mounted on his 1/2 ton and drove from the city to home and around here a bit. With less then 1000 km on the tires, his left frt side wall had a 4 inch long bulge, sticking out well over an inch.
they make 1000s of tires I'm sure, and maybe their performance tires are great? I don't no.
I will not touch them

the tire i don't know (Sumitomos) can't be any worse

My car sees 250 kph most every time its out. :rolleyes:
I was heading to work in my truck doing 170 kph tuesday
There was no traffic and the roads were dry
only 1 ticket in the Porsche
Of course the 928 is new to me with only 1 month of milage from me
last fall.
I live in Canada. Roads can get rough and ya got to avoid the pot holes.
knowing the road and having a good radar detector is a must.

Those Good year are a nice looking tire. speed rateing, ware and price are practical for your style of driveing

It looks like the Kumho tires look like a long lasting rain tire

I would place the Yoks between the two

all three look to be very nice rubber and a tough choice
I think the GY look better
The GY and Yok have the same ware and speed
the Kumho are harder but a very flexible tread pattern

sorry thats all I can say adam but IMHO all of them are a great choice.

IF I had to choose between those 3, I would choose the Goodyear Eagle.

I checked out a lot of tires before I made my choice. But personal driving style and conditions play into what's the best for you :confused:

Thanks Brad, I heard from some 928ers that liked the Kumhos, so have ordered them.

Good choice! I have Kumhos on my BMW and my wife's Mustang, and would be happy to put them on the 928 except I got a good deal on a set of Pirelli PZero Corsas. FWIW, Sumitomo's aren't bad, they're popular with the Import crowd (Mazda, Nissan, Toyota, etc).
