I wouldn't worry about the torque tube if there are no obvious issues. That's just me. Don't overwhelm yourself. Simply take it all step by step. Just focus yourself to one specific duty at a time. Most importantly, take your time. Don't let yourself feel disappointed if you haven't gotten everything done by the first of spring or whenever. Realize that whenever you have it all done it will definitely have been worth the work and wait.

Step 2: Remove engine ground strap to body. Step 3: Undo harness clamp at cross member. Get those two out of the way now so there is no fear of forgetting later. I guess go ahead and remove engine harness from hot post too, while you're at it. Then remove the entire fuel injection harness and ECU. Remove exhaust and o2 sensor.

James,
Rhonda and I drink Cap'n Morgan and Coke as our drink of choice. She: Regular Coke or Zero; Me: diet Coke with my Cap'n. Not for the caloric advantage, I just think it's not quite so sweet. When we order out, the waitstaff always want to give her the Diet and I always laugh and correct them.
Oh yeah, back on topic. I always start my car projects from the ground up, meaning suspension, brakes and stuff like that before moving to engine topics

Next year at 3rd Coast you bring the Capt'n Morgans and I'll bring the Coke (and Diet Coke)! YUM!!! That will warm us right up! It was good seeing you and Rhonda this year. Wish I had been able to attend more of the fun! Just glad I made it out for part of the weekend though...looked like I was not going to get ANY of it up till the last week!

We had Captain Morgan with us at Third Coast. If I had known, I would have offered it up, although there wasn't a whole lot of drinking on Sunday due to the driving home aspect.
Next time brutha, next time.
Sorry for the hijack

First off.
Why do you think you need to pull the engine? Simple question. Please list why you think that needs to be done.
Nothing you say you need to replace even comes close to needing an engine transplant. It actually comes across as stupid wanting to do it. So, again, why do you think you need to?
I can see the reasons for wanting to, not a good idea, but go ahead.
Brake system...............if you need to pull the master, ok.....pull it, then pressure bleed it all, a few times if it makes you happy.
Lord, nothing you are talking about on your to do list requires pulling the engine. It might make more sense to you to do so, but trust me, it does not.

OK Sean; Constructive advise is good. You are not an Asshole, No offence taken.
I understand that I can do the intake and most of the lines with the engine in the car.
I thought it was easier to do the heads with the engine out of the car?
Remember this is my first Porsche so as a mechanic I am also curious as to what all I would find when the engine is out of the car.
I want to replace ALL lines, coolant, fuel, electrical, or any thing that could be baked or just old. I assume the metal lines will be ok.
I also need to replace the rear main seal, so I have to split the bell housing to get the flywheel out. I need to install the new pktentioner, poss. new water pump,
This would be a good easy time for me to pull the torque tube and inspect those bearings, maybe replace them and check my shaft to see if it is still true. (Vibration on/off load sometimes?)
I am going to spray out the engine bay and see how it cleans up.
Roll the engine upside down and recheck those pan bolts, and since Roger found some engine mount issues, I will check and replace them if needed, but I think mine are fine.
So what do you think?, would you pull it?
Brad

If you were just doing the head gaskets, fuel lines, and intake then I would say leave it in. Doing the rear main, motor mounts, torque tube, and pan gasket changes the dynamics a bit though. Having the engine out will make all of those jobs much easier. I actually think you would save quite a bit of time by pulling the engine.

I posted a video in the tech tips if you are interested in my vid skills.
I think some of my commentary skills suck but I got through it.
