How many purists?

Good morning! Well, my MY84 shell is going to the body shop for a complete paint by the end of this month or in early July. I've yet to decide on the color and am conducting a poll of the 928OC members as to which way to go. Not that that will make any real difference but the results should be interesting. The way I see it I have 4 options. 1- original color (not my favorite option as if I'm staying true to the VIN then I would have to do the same interior and I'm not fond of the current color combo), 2 - a Porsche color from the same MY (try to stay true within the MY but this would also suggest an interior that was available with that particular exterior color), 3 - any Porsche color, and 4 - any color (not necessarily Porsche). For a little more background, I am making some modifications such as: 1 - removing the integrated spoiler and using a raised wing (something like the one sold by 928 Motor Sports), 2 - removing the power antenna and installing a shark fin on the upper part of the read hatch, and 3 - removing the rear seats and installing a custom audio system in that location. No drive train mods or suspension mods. Let's hear what everyone thinks! Thanks.

I probably wouldn't be wild about the spoiler mod, but I wouldn't cringe at anything else you mentioned. I'm not much of a purist where it concerns paint and interior. I have an '84 that I plan to repaint, too, and I plan on modifying the original color.

With the mods I would not worry about the model year. I would stick with a Porsche color however, you favorite considering the interior and whether you are radically changing colors or not etc. Enjoy your car, make it your own. But I do like to keep Ferdinand in mind where appropriate.

The previous owner of my L700 color code black '85 928 let his woman drive the car one day, and it was sideswiped in traffic. The body shop told him that they could NOT make the damaged door match the rest of the paint on the car, which had typical Florida oxidation. Meaning, he didn't wax it enough....

Instead, this ASSHOLE repainted the whole car a Saturn color called "Black Gold". A mid '90's color, I was kicked off of the Saturn fan website after I joined and asked about this, and even posted a pic of my 928.

In any case.... When I bought the car in 1999 my idea was to have a professional respray done, along with the removal of the rub strips. The thing is...while I like my current car and it costs me next to nothing, I still want a later model SILVER car. The "UPS truck but metallic" color has kind of grown upon me, but the problem with dark colors on a 928 is that it does not show off the cars lines very well.

REPAINTING your car a different color NEVER works and ALWAYS brings down the value. Keep that in mind-

I would say stick with a Porsche color and start by looking at your MY. Don't blame you for removing the S spoiler out back...frankly I'd remove the one up front too... but that is just me. I prefer the OB cars (even with a stand off rear wing) to the S. I prefer the GTS to ALL and the S4 is 2nd fav...but I digress. Now the S spoiler PLUS the Perfex Splitter and the stand off wing...NOW WE HAVE A WINNER!

The "S" rear rubber spoiler I really like, one of the reasons I got this model in fact. I think the front one could be a little better maybe but I like it too. I do like the GTS and S4 as well. But the 83 body which has no rub strips is classic. To me it shows off the tremendous styling and gives off a little more "sharky" silhouette. That is what is fun, each year has it's own little thing that someone prefers or not. That keeps us related but they do not all look like.... well.....911's

I have just spent a lot of money getting my engine redone. My 928 is a 1985 5 speed. My interior is bad and I am starting on that. I don’t like the interior color it is like a maroon/Brown and the car is white. After going over and over of what to do I decided to redo it all original and start looking for the 928 that is black on black and an automatic, that is the color I really want. I will just have two 928’s I will call one venom and the other one anti-venom. I will be broke and want be able to drive either one of them!!! The white one was my first and I want to keep her pure!!:cool:

I'm a purist.

You want a S4 look, buy a S4. You want an OB, buy a OB. Don't remove a S spoiler and add something else. It just kills me to see anything that is not original. (as far as looks. Engine mods and other mods are OK with me)

I am actually considering removing the rear spoiler and wiper from my '90GT...

The anchor nuts in the spoiler on my '88 S4 are nonexistent, so the spoiler had been attached with three inch deck screws. Chances are, it will not be going back, as I have grown to live the slick look of the white 928 with no spoiler. Then I'll just change my mind and put it back on later probably...

I am normally a purist, but my car has the vinyl dash, and it is not in good shape. So, when I have the money, this car will have a pretty heavy interior transformation. The 928 interior is cool, but I think it can be made a lot better with some modern trimmings. I envision a dark brown leather dash, with light tan alcantara pieces, with mostly white stitching, and some pale blue accent stitching. A little brushed aluminum to replace the black plastic in the center console. And maybe some teak, or light oak trim along the doors and dash, with some white LED's hiding behind that, for a very subtle lighting accent at night. Meh, that'll never happen, but I guy can dream, right?

Anyway, IMHO, do what you want to the car. Make it yours. If I don't like it, well, I just won't like it, but if you like it, it is all good...

I'm good with interior upgrades also. I would love to have PC's new leather interior with some alcantera.... So, I guess I'm not a PURE, purist.

N. That is NOT a spoiler delete, it is an OB... The S spoilers were not standard till '83 in the US (and if you didn't get an S Euro car they didn't have spoilers either) and in '81 and '82 in the US you could get the "competition package" or whatever they called it that had spoilers and bigger brakes (only slightly) and bigger roll bars.

So, that is just a simple OB there. One very pure design that I prefer to the S cars myself.

Emmaunelli, I like that interior there. I kind of did something like that with my EURO85 car by just doing a bit of deviating of carpets and door inserts in black and red. Really sets the car off nicely I think!

Confused about this listing.

If a 1982 and not a Competition Package 82, it didn't come with the S spoilers. So the "spoiler delete" doesn't make sense.

"Last year of the 928"? Meaning last year before it became a S?

"2+ condition vehicle"? Meaning a 2 + 2 seat configuration vehicle?

I didn't even read the ad Rick... It is plain and simple a regular '82 car. PERIOD. 2+ may refer to the actual condition of the car cosmetically with a 1 being a like new or fully restored car...perhaps... I doubt they mean 2+2 in that context. "last year of the 928" MUST refer to the fact that all 928's AFTER '82 were 928S's and then S4's and then GTS's, so technically they are not wrong... LOL!

Well, I have run past this guys house for the past two years that he has had this car for sale, and have never actually looked at it up close. Why? Because I KNOW myself, and I don't want it to follow me home that's why! I have too many projects and not enough garage/driveway space as it is!

From what I can tell about the car, it is in VERY good shape. I do NOT know the seller. I've never driven the car, but it appears to be in perfect condition, with no paint issues whatsoever. I was of the opinion [perhaps wrong] that Porsche sold ALL the US model 928's starting in 1982 with the "S" spoilers. If you wanted a "pure" 928 you could have it, Porsche simply had an option code for the spoiler delete. I have never seen a 928 later than 1981 without all the spoilers. Again, I could be wrong.

The person that owns this car seems to run his "dealership" out of his house in a wealthy neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale.
