ignition key replacment

Down to one key for my 1986. Any advice on replacement options?:confused:

928 intl can cut you one, but of course you have to live without your key for the time it takes to mail it out and back. When I got my GT it had a different key for the door, so I sent that with its key, and the ignition key, to 928 Intl. They rekeyed the lock, and provided a second key as well, so as to get me back to one key for the car. I did insure the key for $2k as I recall, since losing it would have been a costly problem.

In the past local key makers could make the 928 key, it is difficult but not a Porsche only option. Call around, maybe bring your key in. If you need to, you can order the key blank for them, once they are sure they can cut it.

These people can send you a key cut from a couple of good photos of your key, so you don't have to chance losing your only key.

I had great luck getting extras for mine from our fellow Aussie's!

This guy was great, reasonable prices, and the keys worked perfectly. AND he can use a high quality digital picture and cuts it perfectly from that. So your key stays with you! I took a head-on pic of the view of the key like I was in the keyhole, then a couple from the sides as well. He said that was more than enough.

Our keys have 4 sides so a special machine is needed. I also managed to get an original Red Porsche key blank to use and a reproduction as a backup, but that was a couple of years ago, and I hear they are increasingly rare now. Check it out, the web site is simple but you can email the guy and he was responsive for me. I was not going to mail my 1 key anywhere if I could help it. It is now never used and kept safely tucked away.
