my Mr. Miyagi

Well....here's what happen but first let me set the stage. Bought a 87 s4 in 2009 blind becase basically i needed a new hobby and i was going through something personally, more importantly i always loved the species from afar. The car "christine" turned out to be a ...well less than perfect. Tranny leaking, timing belt time etc.... I did what i could and got "experts'" to give me a price which was OUT RAGUOUS. Drove Chrisine to a shopping center in 2011 preprated to abandon her and a guy walks up takes a look and says you need to call Moon. The guy had an 89 which was bad ass. I was broke so I took the info and parked christine untill now. New job so I called Moon, who was the owner of 6 928s and a junkie. he took christine under his wing and she is on the road to full recovery. So far tranny fixed, new spark plugs and timing belt done ...brakes under way and distro cap in the works ..all for just parts.

Moon is a transplant from S. Korea and a gentleman and a scholar. I am so glan to have found him.

Interesting read. I am glad you found a tech you can trust your car with. You should refer him to the OC since he is an obvious enthusiast himself.

I can't find a mr. Miyagi down south, so I am slowly becomimg the 928 Kid on my own with the help of our club members!!!

As mentioned Moon is a 928 feen but his english and computer skills are very limited. JAN/Feb he will start my AC and Sun Roof fix. Thinking of doing an top engine refresh myself using Dwaynes guide.....I follow instructions well is it feasible with Moon backing me up just in case?

The top-end refresh is a good starter project for someone who is looking to learn about his car. Before you start to 'peel back the onion' on the 928 it really can look intimidating. Once you start getting the air tubes off, and air filter and MAF out and start getting in deeper, it starts to look like something more familiar with cam covers, heads and the throttle body you may recognize from other cars.

There are enough guys who have done it before you (and you'll have the write-up) that you should get constant help and encouragement.

Take pics as you go and label and bag parts as they come out and you'll be fine.

Congrats on finding your own Miyagi, sounds like someone we really could use in the OC and as part of the 928 community.

I agree totally with Mike - Take literally hundreds of digital photos before and during the disassembly.
Buy a box of ziplok bags and a couple of sharpies and use them religiously.

I'm sure you know there is a pretty active contingent in the NoVa/DC/MD area, a great bunch of guys. I've been down there for a GTG or two as well. I'm sure many of them would like to meet this Miyagi/Moon gent. Maybe he'd like to attend a GTG?
