New Member looking for help

Hello, New member here from the great state on Minnesota. I have an 83 928 that I picked up near Denver a couple of years ago. Developed an antifreeze leak from under the timing belt cover so I assume I need to replace the water pump and timing belt as long as I am in there. Where is the best place to purchase the parts I need. I want decent quality but don't want to pay a fortune. Any ideas. Also going to tackle this with a mechanic friend of mine and was wondering if anyone had some tips before I start. Thanks for you help. There aren't a lot of 928 owners in my area so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW start a car profile of your car in the members car profile area
and take some pictures of your car and as you work on it.
It is your area to make your own Journal of your car.
Document everything you do in your car profile and its proof the work was done for when and if you ever sell it.

It also helps others that will do the same job.

There really are no *inexpensive* 928 parts frankly and if that is an issue, it is probably not the car for you... they are not now nor were they ever cheap to maintain properly. That is what Honda's are for.

That said, there are more inexpensive and high quality parts for the 928 now than there has ever been, but none of them are Honda inexpensive...just not PORSCHE expensive.

I'd check with either 928sRus.com (Roger) or 928Intl.com (Mark) and see how they can help you out. You can look at their websites and might get some ideas there also.

Good luck and keep us posted and yes, that would indicate a H2O pump leak and potential failure in your near future...though from time to time they will leak and not completely fail...but better to change it and be safe then stranded on the side of the road having toasted your T-belt...or worse.

Thanks for your help everyone. I do realize that Porsche parts are not inexpensive but I was wondering the best place to get quality parts and not get gouged. I will try your suggestions. I will post back when done and let you know how it goes

Ditto on Roger @ 928sRus - he is awesome, as is Jim. And you can find some things on 928 Motorsports and Jager (in Canada) as well. Pelican can be used but always shop around especially for hard to find parts as they will charge a premium to get things from Germany. DC automotive and AutoAtlanta can get you give you a look at the PET to help you verify which part you need. AutoHausAZ sometimes has some things.

But start with Roger and Jim as the others mentioned. I bet I have 50-70 links to different businesses from my searches over the past year and a 1/4 on my browser.
